Stop Bill 207: “Abandoning Patients Act” Is Unconstitutional and Dangerous

A bill introduced on Nov 7 in the Alberta legislature is blatantly unconstitutional because it legalizes discrimination against vulnerable groups on the basis of “conscience.”  It is a major violation of patients' Charter rights and a gross overreach of provincial authority. It is actually unenforceable because of its conflicts with Charter rights and case law.

First act of new Liberal government must be to save Clinic 554

It’s particularly urgent that the new government act immediately to require New Brunswick to fully fund Clinic 554, where only surgical abortions receive no reimbursement from the province. NB’s clear violation of the Canada Health Act means the clinic will close without prompt help. If New Brunswick remains pig-headed, we demand that the federal government immediately withhold transfer payments for the full amount the clinic has been denied since the clinic opened in 2015, and redirect these funds to Clinic 554

Scheer must promise to improve abortion access, not just refuse to “re-open this debate”

Andrew Scheer needs to stop repeating that he won’t “re-open the abortion debate”, and instead start explaining how he’s going to support abortion rights and improve access. Abortion is still politicized and stigmatized, and plenty of work still needs to be done to ensure access for every Canadian who needs it.

Closure of Clinic 554 due to “illegal and heartless” tactics of anti-choice politicians in New Brunswick

The news of Clinic 554's impending closure is devastating because it will severely impact accessibility to healthcare for some of the most marginalized communities in New Brunswick.  NB Health Minister Ted Flemming is abusing his position to make sure that members of a disadvantaged group do not have equitable access to healthcare. His flouting of laws and Charter rights is a disgraceful act of misogyny.
